Since our humble beginnings in 2001, with a single restaurant in Karama, we have spread our wings and grown to multiple locations around Dubai, including Silicon Oasis and JLT. Through teamwork and the support of you, our customers, MyGovinda’s is now ready to take on the world by opening outlets in other countries.
Today, MyGovinda’s is proud to be considered UAE’s best vegetarian restaurant.
In 1982, our founder, Mahesh Advani, left home for the UAE in search of making something of himself. He started working with his uncle in textiles and soon started his own textile company. In 2000, Mr Advani returned to his vegetarian roots after falling in love and practicing yoga. In his search for pure vegetarian food, which was not oily, Mr Advani couldn’t find too many options. So he decided to venture into the food industry and started MyGovinda’s to cater to vegetarian eaters.
When asked about the success of MyGovinda’s, he says, “It has surpassed more than what I could imagine. I am particularly gratified by the fact that Western and Arab expats have taken to our food. This has convinced me that Sattvic food can become popular around the world."
Besides this, Mr Advani also believes in giving back. As the president of the Dubai Textile Merchant Charitable Trust, he has undertaken several philanthropic activities, including slum rehabilitation, higher education scholarships and more. He is also an active member of the ISKCON movement (International Society for Krishna Consciousness).
What sets MyGovinda’s apart is the focus on pure Indian Sattvic food that emphasizes fresh, seasonal vegetarian ingredients that are naturally sourced. Every dish is prepared with care, ensuring that you only get the best when you step in.
But what actually is Sattvic food? Simply put, a Sattvic diet is a regimen that places emphasis on seasonal foods, nuts, seeds, ripe vegetables, legumes, whole grains, non-meat-based proteins and fruits, if one has no sugar problems. Dairy products are also recommended when the cow is fed and milked appropriately.
As explained by our founder, “Eating agreeable food and eating in moderation is the key to a healthy life. By following a pure Indian Sattvic diet, you can increase your energy levels and also take care of your spiritual well-being as no harm is being caused to other living things. We also cater to the Jain community and have dishes that are made without any root vegetables, so as not to harm ants and worms.”
